Video on demand

Upload automatically with DCAST Desktop

Install DCAST Desktop, let it watch the folders where your videos are saved, and it uploads every new video once β€” and continues where it stopped after a restart.

Before you start

  • You have a computer with Windows or Linux.
  • You have a DCAST account β€” you sign in to the app with it.

Steps

  1. 1
Open the Mini Uploader page in the Tools section of dcast.tv and download DCAST Desktop: Download for Windows (alpha), or the Linux .deb installer or AppImage.
  2. 2
On Windows the installer is not signed yet: if Windows warns you, click More info and then Run anyway.
  3. 3
Open the app and sign in with your DCAST email and password, or with one of the sign-in buttons under or continue with.
  4. 4
Click the folder icon in the header (Watch Folders) and then + Add folder β€” or drop a folder onto Drop a folder here.
  5. 5
On the Basics tab choose the Folder path with Browse and give it a Label if you like. The File extensions default to .mp4, .mov, .mkv, .mts and .m4v, and the Minimum size to 5 MB.
  6. 6
On the Upload tab set the Default quality, the Visibility (Private by default) and what happens After the upload: Keep the file, Archive it into a hidden archive folder inside the watched folder, or Delete it. Click Add folder.
  7. 7
Save or export videos into that folder. A file joins the queue once it has stopped growing, so an export still being written is never sent half-done.
  8. 8
Watch the queue: each row shows Waiting in the queue, its progress, or a reason. A copy of a video already in the queue or in your account is marked Skipped with the name of the original.
  9. 9
If you close the app or restart the computer, open DCAST Desktop again: unfinished uploads from watched folders continue from the part the server already has.

Expected result

Every new video saved into a watched folder appears in your DCAST library once, without a click, and long uploads survive a restart.

Common problems

A video in the folder is not picked up.

Check that its extension is in File extensions and that it is at least the Minimum size. Videos inside subfolders are not watched β€” save them into the folder itself.

A row says Upload failed.

Check the connection and click the Try again icon on the row.

A file I picked by hand was not resumed after a restart.

Only uploads from watched folders are picked up again after a restart. Add the file again, or put it into a watched folder.

I am on a Mac.

The download page offers Windows and Linux builds only. Upload from the browser on the Videos tab in the meantime.
