Video on demand

Show visitors a teaser of a paid video

Let people who have not bought a paid or subscriber-only video see what it is β€” your own promo clip, or an automatic blurred preview.

Before you start

  • The video is uploaded and has finished processing.
  • Its Monetization is not Free β€” Pay per view, For subscribers or Hybrid.
  • If you want your own promo clip, it is a short video file of at most 300 MB.

Steps

  1. 1
Open VIDEOS and click the gear icon on the card of the video to open Editing Video.
  2. 2
Find the block What viewers see when access is closed. It appears once Monetization is not Free.
  3. 3
Choose Teaser. Without your own clip, visitors see an automatic preview: the first 60 seconds of the video, blurred and without sound.
  4. 4
To show your own clip instead, click Upload promo and choose the file. It plays clear, with sound, behind the buy button.
  5. 5
Wait for the message Preparing the promo clip β€” about a minute β€” until it says Promo clip is in place. Replace promo swaps it for another file; Remove promo goes back to the automatic preview.
  6. 6
    Click Save Changes.
  7. 7
Open the watch link in a private browser window to see the video as a visitor does.

Expected result

A visitor who has not bought the video sees the teaser behind the buy card, while you and your buyers see the full video.

Common problems

The block What viewers see when access is closed is missing.

It appears only for a video that is not Free, and only when you edit a video that is already uploaded.

Upload promo says the video has to finish processing first.

Wait until the video is ready in your library, then upload the promo again.

The promo clip could not be prepared.

Try another file β€” an MP4 with H.264 video works best β€” and keep it under 300 MB.

I switched to Cover and my promo is gone.

Switching to Cover deletes the promo clip; the window asks before it does. Upload the clip again if you return to Teaser.
