Video on demand

Continue an upload after a dropped connection

What the browser does when your connection drops during an upload, and how to continue an upload that was interrupted.

Before you start

  • You started an upload from the Videos tab in your browser.
  • You still have the same file on your device.

Steps

  1. 1
Keep the upload tab open. When the connection drops, the browser keeps retrying on its own for several minutes, and the count starts over each time data moves again.
  2. 2
While your device is offline, the upload waits and continues by itself when the network comes back. There is no separate message while it waits β€” the progress bar simply resumes.
  3. 3
If the upload fails for good, a red Upload error banner appears. Upload again lets you choose the file again; Close hides the banner.
  4. 4
If the tab was closed or the page reloaded, open VIDEOS. The card of the video says Upload interrupted.
  5. 5
Click Resume upload on the card and choose the same file again. The upload continues from the part the server already has.

Expected result

The upload finishes without sending the whole file again, and the video moves on to processing.

Common problems

Resume upload says to pick the same file.

You chose a different file. Choose exactly the file named in the message.

The upload can no longer be resumed.

The partial file has expired on the server. Delete the card and upload the file again.

The message says the file is larger than the limit.

This is final and is not retried. Make the file smaller or check the upload limit of your plan on the Billing page.
