Live streaming

Go live from your browser camera

Broadcast straight from the browser of your phone or computer, without installing an encoder.

Before you start

  • Your device has a camera and a microphone, and you use a current browser.
  • You can allow the browser to use the camera and the microphone when it asks.
  • A CAMERA stream has no Connection panel, no backup stream and no language tracks — for those, create an RTMP, SRT or WHIP stream.

Steps

  1. 1
Open the dashboard, click STREAMS in the tab row and click Create Stream.
  2. 2
Type the Stream Title. Leave Protocol on CAMERA — it is the default.
  3. 3
Click Create Stream, then click the gear icon on the new card to open the stream page.
  4. 4
The camera preview opens by itself. When the browser asks for the camera and the microphone, allow both.
  5. 5
In the right column, use the Capture card to choose the Orientation (Landscape or Portrait) and the Quality. 60fps is offered only when your device proves it can deliver it.
  6. 6
Use the buttons on the preview to mute the microphone or turn the camera off. On a device with more than one camera, the switch button changes between them without restarting the broadcast.
  7. 7
Click Start Stream. While it connects the button says Connecting…; on air a red Live badge appears on the preview.
  8. 8
When you are done, click Stop Stream. It ends the broadcast itself, not only the camera, so viewers are not left waiting.

Expected result

Viewers on the watch page see and hear you live, and after Stop Stream the broadcast is shown as ended.

Common problems

The page says camera access was denied.

Allow the camera and the microphone for this site in your browser settings and refresh the page.

Start Stream says No signal and cannot be pressed.

The camera is turned off. Turn it on with the camera button on the preview first.

The broadcast stops when I switch to another app on my phone.

Phones may pause the camera of a browser in the background. Keep the browser in front for the whole broadcast and keep the phone on power for long events.
