Live streaming

Download the recording of a broadcast

Save the recording of a finished stream, restream or room to your computer as an MP4 file.

Before you start

  • The broadcast has ended. A stream switched to 24/7 (no recording) in its Settings is not recorded at all.
  • For a room, a cloud recording was started during the session. Cloud recording of rooms is a paid feature.

Steps

    Open the dashboard and go to the tab of the broadcast: STREAMS, RESTREAM or ROOMS.

    On the card of the finished broadcast, click the download icon (Download video).
  3. 3
    The window Choose a quality opens. For a stream it lists the qualities of the recording; for a restream or a room it offers Original (MP4) with the size of the file.

    Pick a quality and click Download, or Copy link to download it on another device. The link stays valid for about 24 hours.

    The file is named after the title of the broadcast and ends with .mp4.

    Restream: to record only part of a broadcast, use the Record switch on the restream page while it is live. Room: use Start cloud recording during the session; later the room shows Last cloud recording with Download cloud recording.

Expected result

An MP4 file of your broadcast is saved on your computer and plays in any video player.

Common problems

The window says the download is available after the broadcast ends.

The broadcast is still live. Stop it first, then come back to the card.

The window says the recording is being finalized.

DCAST is still putting the file together. Try again in a few minutes.

There is nothing to download for a stream.

Check the stream mode in Settings. A stream on 24/7 (no recording) saves no video; switch it to Standard stream before the next broadcast — it cannot be changed while the stream is live.

The download link from yesterday no longer works.

Links last about 24 hours. Open the card and create a new one.
