Broadcast from a file: on a loop or on a schedule

Put a video from your library on air as a live broadcast, repeat it in a loop as a 24/7 channel without recording, or start it at a set time.

Before you start

  • The video is in your library and has finished processing. Upload it first if it is not there yet.
  • A video that is already the source of another stream cannot be chosen for a second one.

Steps

  1. 1
Open the dashboard, click STREAMS in the tab row and click Create Stream.
  2. 2
Type the Stream Title and, under Protocol, pick FILE. The list starts on CAMERA, so change it here.
  3. 3
Click Create Stream. The new card appears in the list; click the gear icon on it to open the stream page.
  4. 4
Open the Video source list and choose a video under Choose from library. Upload from device sends a new file instead: it goes on air as it is, is not processed and does not become a video in your library. The choice is saved at once.
  5. 5
To play only a part of the video, fill in Start time (seconds) and, if you need it, End time (seconds, optional). Left empty, the video plays to the end.
  6. 6
To repeat the video, turn on Loop video. A looped broadcast is kept as a 24/7 broadcast without recording: nothing is saved as a video afterwards, because every circle repeats a video you already hold. The switch also works while the broadcast is on air; if the running broadcast cannot take the change, a message says it applies from the next start.
  7. 7
To start later, turn on Schedule for later, set the Broadcast start time and click Schedule broadcast. A Scheduled for chip with Cancel schedule appears. At that moment the platform presses Start for you, and your plan’s limits are checked then.
  8. 8
To start now instead, click Start Stream. Click Stop Stream when you want to end the broadcast; a looped broadcast runs until you do.

Expected result

The watch page plays your video as a live broadcast. A looped broadcast repeats until you stop it, and a scheduled one goes on air by itself at the set time.

Common problems

Schedule broadcast asks me to select a video first.

Choose the video in the Video source list first: a scheduled start plays a video of your library.

The schedule says to pick a time in the future.

Choose a start time that has not passed yet, then click Schedule broadcast again.

The scheduled time passed and the stream is not on air.

If Start is refused at that moment, for example by your plan’s limit on broadcasts at once, the stream stays off air. Free a slot and click Start Stream, or schedule it again.

No video remains after a looped broadcast.

That is intended: a looped broadcast is not recorded, because it only repeats a video you already have. Turn Loop video off before Start if you want the broadcast recorded as any other stream is, when recording is switched on for it.

Start Stream is refused.

Your plan’s limits are checked at Start: the number of broadcasts on air at once and the live-duration cap. Stop another broadcast or open See plans.
