Live streaming
Add language tracks to your stream
Let interpreters send their own audio into your broadcast so every viewer picks the language they want to hear in the player.
Before you start
- Your account is on the PRO or VIP plan. On other plans the Languages tab shows a PRO mark and an Upgrade to PRO button instead of the tracks.
- Your stream receives video over RTMP or SRT. Streams on CAMERA, WHIP, HLS or FILE have no Languages tab.
- Each interpreter has an encoder (OBS or similar) that can send AAC audio at 48 kHz, stereo.
Steps
- 1Open the dashboard, click STREAMS in the tab row and click the gear icon on the card of your stream.
- 2In the right column, click the last tab of the row that starts with Connection — Languages.
- 3Click Add language. A track named Language 2 appears with its own connection details; each further click adds the next one (Language 3, Language 4 …).
- 4Click the track’s name field and type the name viewers will see in the player, for example English or Español (up to 64 characters). Press Enter or click elsewhere to save it.
- 5RTMP stream: give the interpreter the RTMP URL at the top of the block — the same server as your main feed — and the Stream key on the track’s card. It is your stream key with the track number added at the end, for example _a2.
- 6SRT stream: give the interpreter the SRT URL on the track’s card — it already contains the track’s stream ID. If their encoder asks for the stream ID separately, copy the SRT Stream ID field.
- 7In the interpreter’s encoder, set the audio to AAC, 48 kHz, stereo, 128–192 kbps. Only the sound is used: send no video, or the smallest picture the encoder allows (for example 320×180 at 200 kbps).
- 8The interpreter starts streaming — before, together with or after your main feed. The dot beside the track number lights up and its tooltip shows the incoming bitrate; No signal means nothing is arriving.
- 9Start your broadcast as usual. In the player on the watch page viewers get a language button next to the settings gear; its menu lists Original — the sound of your main feed — and every language you added.
- 10To stop offering a language, click the bin icon on its card. Its key no longer accepts new connections.
Expected result
The player on the watch page shows a language button. Each viewer switches between Original and your languages for themselves.
Common problems
There is no Languages tab.
The tab exists only on streams that receive RTMP or SRT. Create a stream with one of these protocols.
The Languages tab shows Upgrade to PRO instead of the tracks.
Multi-language live is part of the PRO and VIP plans. Click Upgrade to PRO and choose one of them.
Add language is greyed out.
A stream holds at most 16 extra tracks. The button also stays inactive until the stream has its stream key.
Viewers hear silence on a language.
Look at the track’s dot. No signal means the interpreter’s encoder is not reaching this track — compare the key or the SRT URL character by character. If the signal is on, set the encoder’s audio to AAC, 48 kHz, stereo: audio in any other format is replaced with silence.
A viewer does not see the language button.
The button appears once your broadcast is running with at least one language added. If you added the language during the broadcast, ask the viewer to reload the watch page.
