Track video views and watch time

Understand how viewers engage with your uploaded videos — how many watched, and for how long.

Before you start

  • At least one video has been published and watched.
  • You are in the Analytics section.

Steps

  1. 1Open Analytics and click on the Videos tab.
  2. 2You see a list of your videos sorted by total views by default.
  3. 3Click a video to open its detail view.
  4. 4Total views is the number of times the video was started.
  5. 5Average view duration tells you how far through the video the average viewer watched.
  6. 6The retention graph shows where viewers dropped off — a sudden fall indicates a section people skip.
  7. 7Traffic sources (if shown) tell you whether viewers found the video from search, a shared link, or your public profile.

Expected result

You can see which videos perform well and understand at what point viewers stop watching.

Common problems

Average view duration is very short.

Check the first 30 seconds of your video — if the intro is slow or unclear, many viewers leave early.

A video has views but zero watch time.

This usually means viewers started the video but stopped within the first few seconds — review your thumbnail and opening shot.

Some videos do not appear in Analytics.

Only published videos with at least one play will show here. Check if the video is still Private.
